N.E. of Corfu Town II

Beyond Kalamaki beach is Mt. Pandokrator, the island summit (900 meters), with the lovely village of Old Perithia on the way, from which the hike to the peak takes around an hour, with incredible views of snow-capped peaks across the water in Albania. A monastery sits on the summit, occupied some years ago by one monk. Another country route is via Lafki.

The largest resort on the northeast coat is Kassiopi, with five pebble beaches, a big diving outfit, and a vibrant nightlife. In contrast, Almyros Beach is not only one of the least developed beaches on the island, but also one of the longest. There are some apartments in the town of the same name.

Rhodha village has a touristic beach, though not a very appealing one, but the older part of the village is attractive, and with good bars and tavernas; there’s a horse riding center. Some nice coves are found near the burgeoning resort of Sidhari;Avliotes and Perouladhes villages are not touristic; there are tavernas and bars in the first and a fine beach below the second.

One can get to the north coast islets via excursion boats and caiques, weather and demand permitting, the most popular of which is Erikoussa, due to its two nice sandy beaches, and has hence become more developed. There are two villages there, with cypresses and olives. Mathraki is the least populated of the three, with a long dark red sand beach about 3km in length, though loggerhead turtles nest here, requiring people to keep a respectful distance, as they are endangered, and much disturbed by noise, bright lights, and compaction of sand. There are a couple of villages on this islet. The largest and also driest of the three islets is Othoni, with rooms and good tavernas, nice walking, and some villages, with traditional architecture in the main one, as well as a medieval fortress, and two pebble beaches.
